Steelers Place Chris Wormley on IR, Sign Jonathan Marshall

Chris Wormley

The Steelers will place defensive end, Chris Wormley, on injured reserve and have signed Jonathan Marshall off the New York Jets practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.

Chris Wormley reportedly suffered a torn ACL against the Baltimore Ravens after a non-contact knee injury. The injury will end Wormley’s season as he heads for surgery. With him out for the rest of the season, the Steelers had to bring someone in to give their defensive line depth.

Enter in Marshall, who has played in four games over two seasons. A sixth-round pick out of Arkansas in 2021, Marshall played in 4 games 2021 and put up a quarterback hit and two tackles. Marshall has been on the Jets practice squad all of 2022 but has yet to be elevated for a game. With the Razorbacks, Marshall registered 1.5 sacks over his four years in Fayetteville. Throughout those years, he added 11.5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, and 71 tackles.

Pittsburgh’s defensive line has come under scrutiny with the injuries to the unit, but also a run defense that has not risen to the challenge. Marshall will try to aid that with Wormley now out for the rest of the season. Similarly to Montravius Adams a season ago, Marshall is hoping to come in and exceed expectations in the playing time he gets in Pittsburgh.
