Over the past several weeks, it’s become clear that there will be changes coming to the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback room. True franchise quarterbacks rarely become available via trade or free agency but there a couple potential upgrades or depth additions worth talking about. That doesn’t mean that the organization is completely folding on Kenny Pickett but based on what we’ve seen through two seasons, it would be irresponsible to go into the season with him as their only option at the most important position in sports. Perhaps the most divisive and realistic candidate is current Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields.

In 2020, Chicago traded up in first round of the 2021 NFL Draft to select Fields fresh out of Ohio State. His first couple of seasons were rough, littered with inconsistent play in an extremely poor environment. Despite having the number one overall selection last season, the organization moved down in the draft, acquiring receiver D.J. Moore and right tackle Darnell Wright in the process, in an effort to build a healthier ecosystem around the quarterback. In year three, Fields flashed potential that once made him a top pick, but his performance was still uneven. Now, with the Bears sitting atop the draft board once again, it seems like selecting another signal caller and thus resetting the financial clock is a mere formality at this point.

PROS: WHY JUSTIN FIELDS WOULD FIT THE STEELERS

From a physical profile standpoint, if you were building a standard modern NFL quarterback from scratch, they would look like Justin Fields.
