Raiders Star Maxx Crosby Fined for Penalty Against Steelers

Steelers Raiders DE Maxx Crosby

The league announced that Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby was fined for his unnecessary roughness penalty against the Steelers in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. Crosby got nailed for $10,927, and the penalty occurred when Crosby mysteriously pulled right tackle Chuks Okorafor off the pile after a quarterback sneak. That did end up being called on the field.

This play is the only play where the Raiders got fined on Sunday overall. Crosby’s thought process on this play is anyone’s guess, and he’ll now have to pay a bit for that questionable decision on the field.

The Steelers were fined multiple times. Kwon Alexander and Miles Killebrew both accrued fines. Alexander’s a repeat offender, costing him $43,709. Over the last two weeks, Alexander has been fined over $80,000, meaning he will play for free in the next two games. Killebrew earned a more modest $13,792 for ducking his head on a special teams play. Alexander has been fined three times, including once in the preseason, but he won an appeal to rescind the foul against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A notable absence from the fine list was Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who was not fined for the controversial roughing the passer penalty that helped the Raiders get back into the game. In total, 34 fines were assessed league-wide for Week 3, ranging from $87,418 to Atlanta’s Kieth Smith to $4,167 to Green Bay’s Ben Sims. All but two of the fines were for unnecessary roughness.
