The Steelers have re-signed offensive tackle Trent Scott on Thursday after releasing him on Tuesday during final roster cutdowns, the team announced on Thursday.
Calvin Austin III was placed on the injured reserve with his foot injury in order to make room for Scott. The Steelers now have four tackles on their roster with new Steelers tackle Jesse Davis joining Dan Moore Jr. and Chuks Okorafor with Scott. Scott is likely to see the least action of the four, but can bring experience and quality depth to the room.
Trent Scott received first-team reps when Okorafor had a scare last Friday prior to Pittsburgh’s game against the Detroit Lions. As such, it is no surprise to see him being brought back to join the Steelers. Over his time with the Steelers, he has consistently moved up the depth chart throughout training camp.
Scott, 28, spent the last two seasons with the Carolina Panthers, where he served under current Steelers offensive line coach Pat Meyer. Before that, Scott played two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, who signed him as an unrestricted free agent out of Grambling State.
The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Scott has played both tackle positions, as well as right guard. He played exclusively guard in 2021, and split time between right guard and left tackle in 2020. In 2019 with the Chargers, he saw his most extensive playing time, appearing in 16 games and making nine starts between left and right tackle.
