Steelers Camp Takeaways: No Pads? Still Physical (+)
UNITY TWP. Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers won’t have their full pads and gear on for a training camp until Monday, but you’d think some of the players forgot that in their Friday practice at Saint Vincent College.
There were big plays, but also big hits. The biggest hit came from safety Damontae Kazee on a Calvin Austin III slant over the middle. Austin caught the ball, and then caught Kazee’s shoulder right to his chest in a huge hit that resulted in a fumble recovered by Kazee.
The hit drew a big reaction from the crowd. Austin popped back up quickly and veteran receiver Anthony Miller ran up to Kazee and had some hushed words with him. After the two shook hands, Miller talked to Austin.
“I told him, ‘don’t take that,'” Miller recalled his talk with Austin. “I told him to ‘show them you’re here. Don’t take none of that. Don’t take nothing from nobody.'”
