Steelers WVU C Zach Frazier

The Steelers’ interest in Zach Frazier has been the worst kept secret among NFL circles for months. On Wednesday, yet another report lends credence to those connecting Frazier and Pittsburgh.

Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan says a source within the Steelers told him Pittsburgh is “VERY” interested in doing whatever they have to do to land Frazier, hinting that may include maneuvering their draft position. “Zach Frazier could step in and start day one for us,” the source told Fillipponi.

Frazier is expected to be drafted within the first two rounds, and that expectation gained even more steam based on his measurements and workout at the NFL Combine. Despite not even testing, he helped himself out, checking in at 6-foot-2 1/2 and 313 pounds with 32 1/4-inch arms and 10 7/8-inch hands. He has a 7.66 Relative Athletic Score out of 10.

Frazier did not run at the combine while recovering from a broken leg that prematurely ended his 2023 season with the Mountaineers, but he did test at the 2024 Big 12 Pro Day. There, Frazier ran a 5.24-second 40-yard dash, a 4.69-second shuttle, 7.85-second three-cone drill, an 8-foot-4 broad jump and a 28 1/2-inch vertical jump.

Frazier was in Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit with the Steelers last week.

Matt Miller of ESPN has Frazier as the 29th overall player in this year’s draft, and thinks there could be a first-round buzz.

“Frazier was a four-time West Virginia state champion wrestler in high school, and that level of agility, toughness and strength is exactly what you want in a center prospect. Coming from a wide-zone scheme, he’s ideal for the modern NFL — and if teams are comfortable with his recovery from a leg injury that ended his 2023 season early, expect late-Round 1 talk,” Miller wrote.
