Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III has undergone foot surgery, he revealed on Instagram Tuesday evening.
“His timing, not mine ??,” Austin wrote. “Appreciate all the prayers and texts, and Dr. O’Malley and his team for taking care of me! SteelerNation imma be back, I love adversity?.”
Austin first suffered what was reported to be a lisfranc injury in training camp prior to the team’s first preseason game. He would be eased back into action as his 21-day window to return was opened after the mandatory four-game period passed. However, somewhere along the way, Austin suffered a setback that would force him to miss the rest of the season.
Now, Calvin Austin III appears to be on the mend. It will require intense rehab, but the focus for Austin and the Steelers will be on returning to the 2023 team healthy by the time training camp rolls around. He is now facing a months-long rehab process ahead of him.
Lisfranc injuries have a high instance of reoccurrence and can require surgery. Steelers defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi suffered the foot sprain toward the end of last season, had surgery, and was still not able to pass a physical after agreeing to a contract with the Chicago Bears in March. His contract was voided and he ended up signing with the Steelers later in the offseason.
