Heading into the 2024 season, wide receiver George Pickens is set to carry a substantial load for the Pittsburgh Steelers. After showing flashes of brilliance in his first two seasons, Pickens has become a central figure in the team’s offensive plans. With the departure of wide receiver Dionate Johnson, Pickens is going to be a pivotal target in the passing game. As the Steelers aim to revitalize their offensive attack, the expectations for Pickens in 2024 are not much higher than his 2023 campaign as his performance will be crucial in determining the success of Pittsburgh in 2024.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Pickens’ 2024 props are set at 975.5 receiving yards, and 4.5 touchdowns. Last season with Diontae Johnson lining up on the opposite side, Matt Canada calling plays, and Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph facilitating, Pickens tallied 63 catches, 1,140 yards, and 5 touchdowns. This year, Pickens is the standalone threat in an Arthur Smith offense with Russell Wilson and/or Justin Fields handling the ball.

George Pickens is poised to thrive in Arthur Smith’s offense in 2024, regardless if Russell Wilson or Justin Fields is at the helm. Smith’s offensive system is known for its balanced approach, utilizing a strong running game to set up play-action passes, which creates opportunities for big plays downfield, an area where Pickens excels. With his combination of size, speed, and exceptional ball-tracking skills, Pickens is a great fit for the deep routes and contested catches that Smith’s scheme allows for. Pickens, who already has shown flashes of his top-tier potential early in his career, now stands to benefit from a system that plays to his strengths.

Pickens could also very well benefit from the presence of an experienced and dynamic quarterback like Russell Wilson or an athletic and evolving passer like Justin Fields. Both quarterbacks have shown the ability to elevate their receivers’ performances, and with Pickens’ talent and Smith’s offensive style, the combination could lead to a breakout season.

This synergy between quarterback play, offensive strategy, and Pickens’ skill set sets the stage for a potentially explosive 2024 campaign. Barring any injuries, it is safe to say that George Pickens could easily exceed Vegas’ expectations in 2024.
