Primanti Bros. Creates Sandwich for Russell Wilson after Cooking Jets
Following Russell Wilson’s historic Pittsburgh Steelers debut in Sunday night’s 37-15 win over the New York Jets, Primanti Bros. announced the release of the DangeRuss Sandwich, an homage to the Dangerwich, which was briefly sold in the Denver area when he was the Broncos quarterback, according to Andrew Limberg of 93.7 The Fan.
The sandwich has pepperoni, salami, ham and bacon, topped with Provolone cheese, signature fresh-cut fries, coleslaw, and tomato.
$1 dollar from each sandwich sold will be donated to UPMC Children’s Hospital, as long as Wilson remains the starting quarterback with the Steelers. Russell Wilson has been a regular visitor at Children’s Hospital during the season.
Primanti Bros. announced before Sunday night’s game that the DangeRuss Sandwich would be on the menu by Tuesday if Wilson cooked the Jets. He indeed did. Wilson made Steelers history by breaking a record that stood for 67 years.
Wilson’s 264 passing yards are the most by a quarterback in their first game with the Steelers in franchise history. He surpassed Earl Morrall’s 249 passing yards, which was set in 1957. Wilson is also the first quarterback to lead the Steelers to 30+ points in his starting debut with the team since QB starts were first tracked in 1950, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
Wilson shined in the play-action game. Wilson aligned under center on 41 of his 66 snaps in Sunday night’s win over the New York Jets, his highest under center rate in a game since 2016 (62.2%), according to Next Gen Stats. Wilson finished 8/9 for 150 yards on under center play-action dropbacks, the most such yards by a Steelers QB in the NGS era (since 2016).
“We figured that if Russ was going to cook on Sunday – we should cook this week,” said Jim Prezioso of Primanti Bros., via 93.7 The Fan. “He’s already looking better than when he was in Denver – and we think our version of his classic sandwich is a little better, too – and with fries and slaw, certainly a whole lot more Pittsburgh.”
The sandwich is available for dine-in and online ordering. It’s also only available for a limited time.
“The DangeRuss Sandwich is the latest addition to our gameday menu,” Prezioso said. “But we’re most excited about the opportunity to raise funds for the UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Russ has always supported children’s hospitals wherever he’s played – and we honored to continue to bring attention to the great work of our local team of doctors, nurses and support staff that care for Pittsburgh’s youngest fans.”
If @DangeRussWilson cooks tonight – the #Dangerwich 2.0 is on the menu by Tuesday. #HereWeGo
