A potential Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback target is off the board, as the Seattle Seahawks have traded veteran quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Smith’s trade comes amid what appears to be a fire sale for the Seahawks, who have also released veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett and are considering trading star wide out DK Metcalf.

The Raiders will owe Smith $25 million in 2025 — the last season of his contract. He will be reunited in Las Vegas with his former head coach, Pete Carroll.

It’s unclear if the Steelers had any specific interest in Smith, though they have been searching far and wide for an upgrade at quarterback, which appears that it will be difficult to find this offseason.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald had previously insisted that they would be keeping Smith, but now it appears that all moves are on the table for the rebuilding Seattle squad under the second-year head coach.

“Yeah. Heck yeah, man, Geno’s our quarterback. I don’t understand the conversation,” said Macdonald. “It’s pretty obvious this guy is a heck of a quarterback. He’s our quarterback. We love him. Can’t wait to go to work with him.”

Even though Seattle missed the playoffs in Macdonald’s first season at the helm, Smith threw for 4,320 yards while completing 70.4% of his passes. Smith also ran for 272 yards on the ground. He scored 23 total touchdowns to go along with 15 interceptions, his second highest total from a single season after his rookie year with the Jets.
