Radio Host Suggests Wild Trade Scenario for Steelers: ‘This Team Needs to Start Over’

With the Pittsburgh Steelers on brutal three-game losing streak, the team’s hopes for a Super Bowl title look bleak. And that is one thing Steelers All-Pro outside linebacker T.J. Watt covets.

Watt was vocal this offseason about the fact that he hasn’t won a playoff game in his career. He reiterated that message earlier this month in a one-on-one interview with DJ Siddiqi of Sports Casting on behalf of his partnership with Peloton.

“Anybody who has followed me throughout my career knows that it’s all about the team and just trying to get to the playoffs and have success when we get there,” Watt said. “I’m just trying to win games and get to the playoffs and have my first playoff win. It has been a huge thorn in my side since I’ve been here.”

Time is running out for Watt and defensive stars Cam Heyward and Minkah Fitzpatrick. They might only have a few years left in their prime. Watt is 30, while Heyward is 35 and Fitzpatrick is 28.

Fox Sports’ Jason McIntyre suggested this offseason that the Steelers could landing multiple first-round picks by trading Watt. The Steelers then could turn that draft capital in a franchise quarterback in the draft. For sure, it’s a wild trade scenario, but he thinks it still makes a ton of sense.

“I took a lot of heat when I said over the offseason the Steelers should trade T.J. Watt and start over, but I wasn’t wrong,” McIntyre said on FS1’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd. “I was just early. I looked for nine or 10 weeks, but this team needs to start over. What do you do in the offseason for Pittsburgh?”

While it seems far-fetched, Watt could want out if the Steelers don’t start having playoff success or make a push for a Super Bowl. Watt’s final year on his contract is in 2025, so he could move on in 2026, depending on how things are going in Pittsburgh.
