Ravens Linked to All-Pro RB Derrick Henry in Trade Market
Trade deadline talk is heating up around the NFL, and one scenario might have one of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ divisional rivals loading up with one of the best running backs to play the game, as the Baltimore Ravens could be circling around Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry.
The Titans appear to be in full sell mode after a 2-4 start and an injury to quarterback Ryan Tannehill. They’ve already shipped safety Kevin Byard off to the Philadelphia Eagles, and it doesn’t seem likely that new general manager Ran Carthon is going to stop there.
The speculation has already started about other Titans veterans, including wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who one oddsmaker thinks is most likely to end up with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
While that trade would help the Steelers, another might make for a tougher road in the AFC North. The Baltimore Ravens are considered one of the favorites to land Titans All-Pro running back Derrick Henry if he’s traded.
According to A to Z Sports, the Ravens are the team that has expressed the most interest in Henry, and that makes sense. The 29-year-old back has run 98 times for 425 yards and three touchdowns this season. With J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hill both banged up, the Ravens have been forced to rely on Gus Edwards, who has 86 carries for 347 yards.
Henry is in the final year of his contract, so the Ravens could get him for 2023 and then turn things back over to Dobbins when he returns from injury next season. The Ravens also have just enough salary cap space to absorb the remainder of Henry’s salary for the 2023 season.
Will the two sides work out a price that makes sense for everyone? That appears to be the big question, as there seems to be no doubt such a move would make sense for both teams. They have until the NFL trade deadline, which is 4 p.m. on Oct. 31, to work it out.
