Ravens Offense Dealt Gigantic Blow
Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell suffered what is believed to be a significant knee injury in their win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Mitchell’s injury occurred after he was tripped up and then hyperextended his left knee. After the game, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh believes that the injury will be season-ending.
That is another blow to a running back room that will be down JK Dobbins for the entire season after he tore his Achilles early in the year. The group will add veteran Melvin Gordon to their active roster to try and fill the void left behind by Mitchell, but they lack the speed and explosiveness that Mitchell uniquely brings to the field when he is out there.
With Mitchell out, Gus Edwards, Justice Hill, and Gordon will man the backfield. While is lacks the juice without Mitchell, it has plenty of ability. That is in addition to the dynamic legs of Lamar Jackson, who is always the most significant threat of the field. But taking Mitchell away does eliminate their home run threat in the ground game outside of Jackson, which could change how defenses can play them slightly without that dynamite speed to cook them on the edge.
Baltimore is sitting at 11-3 and in the driver’s seat in the AFC North. But they face the 49ers and Dolphins before the Steelers head to Baltimore to close their season against the Ravens. No matter what happens, even if the Ravens go deep into the playoffs, it seems that Mitchell will be done for the year.
