Ravens Surprisingly Rule Out All-Pro Safety
The Pittsburgh Steelers are less than 24 hours away from their battle with the Baltimore Ravens. Ahead of the matchup, the Ravens made a surprise announcement when ruling pro-bowl safety Eddie Jackson out for the week 11 matchup.
According to multiple reports, Jackson was ruled out for non-injury-related reasons. The eighth-year safety out of Alabama had been active in nine of the first ten games for Baltimore – logging four starts.
Earlier in the week, the Ravens received good news as Kyle Hamilton returned to practice after suffering a scary injury against the Bengals. Had Hamilton missed this week, Jackson would have likely been the next man up.
As it stands, the Ravens will be down Jackson and taking a hit at safety depth after all. After spending his first seven years with the Chicago Bears – who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2017 draft – he was released after signing a four-year, $58.4M extension prior to the 2020 season.
Baltimore scooped the former first-team All-Pro safety up with a one-year $1.5M contract after his departure from Chicago in July. The signing provided Baltimore with quality depth and personnel flexibility with Hamilton and Marcus Williams already on the roster.
The week 11 battle will determine sole control of the AFC North with a trip to Cleveland on Thursday night on tap for the Steelers. Russell Wilson and the Steelers will look to take advantage of the worst-ranked pass defense in the league now down a defender.
