Vannett was set to make $2.678 million this coming season in Denver.
While more of a blocking tight end earlier in his career, Vannett caught 14 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown with the Broncos last season.
The Steelers had acquired Vannett from the Seattle Seahawks for a fifth-round 2020 NFL Draft choice in a trade midway through the 2019 season, but he did not have much of an impact. He caught 13 passes for 128 yards over 13 games in Pittsburgh.
The Seahawks turned around and traded that pick to Washington for cornerback Quinton Dunbar, who started six games for Seattle in 2020 before suffering a knee injury. Washington used it to draft former McKeesport and Michigan linebacker Khaleke Hudson.
Vannett was originally drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Ohio State by Seattle. He has 75 career catches for 686 yards and five touchdowns over five seasons.
