Report: Chicago Bears Request Permission to Interview Steelers VP Omar Khan

Steelers GM Omar Khan

The Chicago Bears have requested permission to interview Pittsburgh Steelers vice president Omar Khan for their vacant general manager position, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

It’s not clear whether the Steelers will grant permission for Khan to interview, with general manager Kevin Colbert reportedly set to retire after the 2022 NFL Draft. Khan and Steelers pro personnel coordinator Brandon Hunt are the Steelers’ top two internal candidates to replace Colbert.

Khan has been a general manager candidate in the past, including for the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans last offseason. He has previously interviewed with the Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks.

The 43-year-old has been in the Pittsburgh front office since 2001. Since 2016, he has been vice president of football and business administration. From 2011-16, he was director of football administration. He was football administration coordinator for 2001-11, helping construct two Super Bowl winners.
Khan is a New Orleans native, attended college at Tulane and first worked in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints.
