There are reportedly some within the Steelers organization that are concerned quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not get through the 2021 season, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.

A pair of anonymous NFL executives shared concerns about Roethlisberger’s durability with La Canfora as well.

“This looks like what I saw last December,” an AFC executive said of Pittsburgh’s offense through two games. “He isn’t any better, and he’s getting hit all the time now, too. That’s a problem.”

Another worries the 39-year-old will not see the end of the 17-game season.

“The ball gets out in two seconds, or he gets hit. And he can’t shake ‘em off like he used to. I don’t think they can get him through the season like this.”

Roethlisberger has been under siege through the first two games of the season, as he has taken a number of big hits and been sacked four times. He has continued to get the ball out extremely quickly as he did in 2020 as a result.

Roethlisberger has thrown two touchdowns and an interception, while completing 62.5% of his passes.

The 18-year veteran is battling a pectoral injury, but will play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
