Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt has reportedly requested a trade, a request which the franchise has apparently declined, according to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot.
Hunt, who is entering the final season of a two-year, $12 million contract, is seeking an extension, whether it be with Cleveland or elsewhere.
Kareem Hunt, who turned 27 on Saturday, has been conducting a “hold-in” at Browns camp, opting only to participate in individual drills. It is rare to have a hold-in starting during the middle of training camp, but that is what Hunt is doing in Cleveland.
Forming half of the league’s top running back tandem with Nick Chubb, Hunt will earn a base salary of $1.35 million in 2022 with a $1.5 million roster bonus. In addition, Hunt also has a per-game roster bonus of $200,000 apiece, which could elevate his salary this season to $3.4 million. This could be potentially solved by a temporary salary raise for the season to make both parties happy
Hunt rushed for 386 yards and five touchdowns a season ago. He also had 22 receptions for 174 yards in eight games. Hunt missed time due to a calf injury that sidelined him. In his career, Hunt has been named to a Pro Bowl and was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2017.
