Free agent edge rusher Melvin Ingram’s one-year contract with the Steelers is for $4 million, according to a report by Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
Ingram, 32, earned $14 million and he counted for $16.6 million against the Los Angeles Chargers’ salary cap in 2020.
The Steelers have yet to officially announce the signing, which was first reported on Monday by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The team will need to release a player to make room for Ingram on the 90-man roster.
Though announced as a one-year deal, it’s possible that the Steelers structured the contract of Ingram’s with voidable years, as they did with Eric Ebron, Joe Haden, Ben Roethlisberger and JuJu Smith-Schuster this offseason, in order to push some of the cap hit of Ingram’s signing into the 2022 season.
