Heyward required medical attention twice in the fourth quarter of the game, and needed to be helped off the field the second time, after which he did not return. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said after the game that the first was a cramp, but he wasn’t sure about the second.
Heyward was replaced on the field by second-year backup Henry Mondeaux, who was making his NFL debut.
The Steelers were also playing without starting nose tackle Tyson Alualu and backup defensive lineman Chris Wormley. Alulau injured his knee in the first quarter. Wormley was placed on injured reserve late in the week after suffering a knee injury against the Tennessee Titans. Isaiah Buggs replaced Alualu at nose tackle.
