Report: Steelers in Market for Cornerback at Trade Deadline
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been shopping around for a cornerback in the trade market, according to a https://twitter.com/jfowlerespn/status/1719338634216620273?s=10&t=bSIiv5j-c3LVdPRblF0_0Q”>report
by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Fowler reported that teams that have been in the market for a cornerback “to some degree” have been the Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. The report came on the heels of news on Monday night that Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson has requested a trade.
Johnson, the second-round pick of the Bears in the 2020 NFL Draft, is having a career year. Pro Football Focus graded him as the best cornerback in the NFL through the first seven weeks of the season. He has two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, four passes defended and 18 tackles on the season.
But Johnson isn’t the only cornerback on the market, and if the Steelers are interested in him, there are probably multiple targets that Omar Khan will be calling about.
Green Bay Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas, Washington Commanders cornerback Kendall Fuller, New England Patriots cornerback Jalen Mills, Carolina Panthers cornerback Donte Johnson, Buffalo Bills cornerback Kaiir Elam, Tennessee Titans cornerback Kristian Fulton, Las Vegas Raiders cornerback David Long and New York Giants cornerbacks Adoree’ Jackson and Darnay Holmes all could be available, according to NFL Trade Rumors.
With the Steelers facing an injury to Minkah Fitzpatrick of unknown length, they could also look to add a replacement for him. Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker, Denver Broncos safeties Kareem Jackson and Justin Simmons, Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn, Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith, Giants safety Bobby McCain, New York Jets safety Ashtyn Davis, Bears safety Eddie Jackson and Titans safety Terrell Edmunds could all be available.
The NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
