The Steelers have released Jhavonte Dean, according to a report by Jake Trotter of ESPN.
Dean, a 23-year old rookie cornerback out of Miami, had just joined the Steelers earlier this week as a waiver claim after being released by the Cleveland Browns.
He played in the Steelers’ fourth and final preseason game, making two tackles. He also played in three games with Cleveland and had three tackles.
The 6-foot-1 native of Homestead, Florida originally signed with Cleveland this spring as an undrafted free agent.
Dean is the fifth player the Steelers have released since the end of the preseason, joining tight end/long snapper Trevor Wood, cornerback Marcelis Branch and defensive linemen Henry Mondeaux and Casey Sayles.
The Steelers’ roster currently stands at 86 players. They need to get down to 53 players by 4 p.m. on Saturday.
