The Pittsburgh Steelers have released quarterback Chris Oladokun, the second of the team’s two seventh-round picks from the 2022 NFL Draft, according to a report by Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.
Oladokun, 24, was selected by the Steelers with the No. 241 overall pick in the seventh round this April out of South Dakota State. He also played collegiately at Samford and South Florida.
The Steelers need to make a total of five cuts by 4 p.m. on Tuesday to get down to an 80-man roster for the third week of the preseason.
In his time with the Steelers, Oladokun was consistently the fourth quarterback in the team’s rotation, and received only a handful of team reps during training camp. As the Steelers put together a game plan for their second preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, Oladokun didn’t even consistently work as the scout team quarterback, with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph both taking turns in that role.

Oladokun could be considered as a potential backup if the Steelers were to trade Rudolph, but his early released suggests that is not a part of the team’s plans.
As a senior at South Dakota State, Oladokun threw for 3,164 yards, 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He also rushed for 166 yards last season and caught two touchdowns, displaying his athleticism all over the offensive side of the ball.
Oladokun led the Jackrabbits to an 11-4 record, including wins over an FBS team at Colorado State and a home victory over the No. 1 FCS team in the country and eventual national champions North Dakota State. South Dakota State was unranked entering the FCS playoffs, but won three games before bowing out in the semifinals at Montana State.
Before transferring to South Dakota State, Oladokun played for Samford, where he started nine of 19 games in two seasons. In the limited action he saw on the field, Oladokun threw for over 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns.
His first stop in college was at South Florida, where he saw even less time as a backup, starting two games in 2018, completing 22 of his 44 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns. He was a three-star recruit as a pro-style passer out of Sickles High School in Tampa, Florida
