Report: Steelers Requested Interview with Texans OL Coach Mike Devlin

The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly requested an interview, but did not conduct one with Houston Texans offensive line coach Mike Devlin, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson.

Houston is moving on Devlin, who has served as the franchise’s offensive line coach since 2015, Wilson reports.

Prior to arriving in Houston, Devlin spent nine years with the New York Jets as their tight ends coach (2006-2012) and offensive line coach (2013-2014). He also spent a single season as Toledo’s offensive line coach during their 2004-2005 season.

The Texans had the league’s 31st-ranked rushing offense in 2020, averaging just 4.3 yards per carry and scoring only ten touchdowns on the the ground. Only one team was worse at running the football last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Houston’s unit also allowed 50 sacks a season ago, the second-most in the NFL.

The Steelers are looking to fill the vacancy left by former offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett, who, along with offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner and defensive backs coach Tom Bradley, did not have his contract renewed following the 2020 season

Pittsburgh has reportedly conducted just two interview to date, speaking with long-time Green Bay Packers offensive line coach James Campen and the Detroit Lions’ Hank Fraley, who has since been retained.
