The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed free agent outside linebacker Ron’Dell Carter, his agent told https://twitter.com/AaronWilson_NFL/status/1556678463888805898″>Pro
Football Network.
Carter, 25, was waived by the Arizona Cardinals on May 16. He has also spent time with the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts since first signing with Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
The 6-foot-3, 269-pound edge rusher has played in four career games, three with the Cowboys in 2020 and one with the Texans last season. He has recorded one career tackle.
Carter played collegiately at James Madison from 2017-19. In three seasons, he played 44 games and recorded 48 tackles and 23.5 sacks, ninth all-time at JMU. In his senior season in 2019, he had 12 sacks in 16 games, including a half sack in the Dukes’ FCS National Championship appearance against North Dakota State.
The Steelers have been searching for edge rusher depth behind starters T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. Carter will join Genard Avery, Derrek Tuszka, Delontae Scott, Tuzar Skipper and rookie free agent T.D. Moultry at the position.
The Steelers will need to clear a spot in order to add Carter to the 90-man roster.
