The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to announce their next general manager by the end of the week, according to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, ending a months-long GM search.

The Steelers concluded their second round of interviews last week, and in total interviewed six candidates twice: vice president Omar Khan, pro scouting director Brandon Hunt, Philadelphia Eagles vice president Andy Weidl, Tennessee Titans vice president Ryan Cowden, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vice president John Spytek and former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley.

Outgoing general manager Kevin Colbert agreed to step down following the 2022 NFL Draft, but has still been in attendance at the team’s rookie minicamp and was at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side on Tuesday for the first OTA session of the offseason.

“Tt’s weird to be out here without Kevin Colbert in an official capacity,” head coach Mike Tomlin said. “That’s just the nature of this thing. The wheels keep turning.”

The Steelers’ process has been a deliberate one, with Colbert announcing his intention to step down shortly after the end of the 2022 season. The team interviewed 16 initial candidates, with Colbert helping to vet contenders and working alongside Steelers president Art Rooney II. Tomlin was involved in the second part of the process, which started after the draft and wrapped up on Friday.

Colbert has been the team’s general manager or director of football operations since 2000, and is just the seventh person to run the Steelers’ personnel office since the team’s inception in 1933.
