Report: Steelers to Hire Omar Khan as General Manager

Steelers GM Omar Khan

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to hire Omar Khan as the team’s next general manager, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Khan was one of six candidates to get a second interview with the Steelers for the position. Steelers pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt, Eagles VP Andy Weidl, Tampa Bay VP Jon Spytek, Tennessee VP Ryan Cowden and former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley are the other candidates that received a second interview. Weidl is expected to be hired as assistant general manager.

Khan has been in the Pittsburgh front office since 2001. Since 2016, he has been vice president of football and business administration. From 2011-16, he was director of football administration.

He was football administration coordinator for 2001-11, helping construct two Super Bowl winners as the team’s primary expert in matters relating to the NFL salary cap. Khan was the only candidate for the position that does not have a background in scouting or talent development.

Khan has been a general manager candidate for several other NFL teams in the past, including the Chicago Bears earlier this offseason and the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans last year.

Colbert made the decision to step down following the 2022 NFL Draft. Colbert, head coach Mike Tomlin and president Art Rooney II were all involved in the selection and interview process.
