Report: Texans Interview Hines Ward for Vacant Head Coach Position

Former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Hines Ward
21 November 2010: Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward (86) runs to the 16 yardline after catching a Ben Roethlisberger pass during the first quarter of the Pittsburgh Steelers 35-3 victory against the Oakland Raiders at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

A former Steelers player could be taking a giant leap up the coaching ranks. According to Mark Berman of FOX 26 in Houston, NFL sources are saying the Texans interviewed Hines Ward for their vacant head coaching position.

Ward does have coaching experience, but even getting an interview to be a head coach in the NFL would be big as he progresses in his post-playing career. Ward has never held a position above wide receivers coach. He spent two years on the Jets staff and currently holds that position at Florida Atlantic University.

Ward spent his entire NFL career with the Steelers after being drafted in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft. While in Pittsburgh, Ward was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and was named to the Steelers All-Time team. He accumulated 1,000 catches for over 12,083 yards and 85 touchdowns during his career. Ward also won two Super Bowl rings and a Super Bowl MVP.
