Steelers Injury Updates: Russ Gets First Team Rep, Roman Out of Boot
Russell Wilson participated in his first team period during camp and wide receiver Roman Wilson ditched the boot for the first time.
UNITY TWP, Pa. — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson ditched the boot for the first time on Sunday since suffering a high ankle sprain in his left ankle on July 30. Wilson is still not participating in practice with the Steelers, but being out of the boot just a few days after the injury is probably a positive sign that the rookie wide receiver could be back before the end of training camp.
Quarterback Russell Wilson (calf) was still limited, but he participated in his first team period during camp, outside of just a few handoffs. On one play, Wilson called an audible and found Duece Watts for about six yards on the right side. That was Wilson’s only pass during the period, however. There is optimism that Wilson could be cleared to practice this week, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Inside linebacker Patrick Queen was out for the second straight day. Outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon, linebacker Kyron Johnson and tight Rodney Williams II were all out, as well. Williams (AC sprain) participated in individual drills during the last two practices but was out altogether on Sunday.
Cornerback Grayland Arnold (undisclosed) returned after missing the last two days. Offensive tackle Broderick Jones (right elbow) was a full participant, as well.
Queen had a minor foot or ankle injury during practice on Friday night. Queen told Derrick Bell of Steelers Now that “he’s good,” so it appears the Steelers are just being cautious or giving him some vet days off.
Outside linebacker David Perales, who is on the team’s injured reserve list after clearing waivers, suffered a torn MCL in his left knee. He’s walking, but in a bulky brace.
The Steelers were back in pads after a non-padded practice on Saturday. The team has an off day on Monday.
