Russell Wilson Has One Clear Advantage Entering the Playoffs
Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson's playoff wins currently is second among active quarterback in the NFL.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson hasn’t played in a Super Bowl or conference title game since the 2014 season. Despite this, the 13-year pro currently ranks second among active quarterbacks in postseason win totals.
Wilson, who posted a 6-5 record in his first season in Pittsburgh, will look to improve his postseason record as he seeks his–and the Steelers–first playoff victory in several years. Despite his near five-year drought, he currently holds a 9-7 record which is the second-most playoff wins among current quarterbacks.
Throughout his career, Wilson has thrown for 3,786 yards, 25 touchdowns, and has completed 61% of passes in 16 career games. Similar to the state of the Tomlin-led Steelers, Wilson experienced a wealth of success early on in his career in postseason play.
Beginning with his rookie campaign in 2012, the Wisconsin product led the Seahawks to five consecutive playoff appearances along with two Super Bowl appearances–bringing Seattle their first championship in 2013.
Since losing Super Bowl XLIX, the Seahawks did not get past the divisional round of the playoffs despite Russ cooking some of his best statistical seasons. In his last four playoff games, he has posted a 1-3 record–with the last victory coming in the 2019 playoffs on the road in Philadelphia.
Tomlin and company will need Mr. Unlimited to play his best if they look to snap their postseason droughts. After Tomlin started his career with a 5-2 playoff record with two Super Bowl appearances, he has watched heartbreaking losses build up into a 3-8 record since 2011.
The Steelers will travel to Baltimore where they will face their first AFC North road playoff game since the 2015 season when they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers were in Baltimore and were defeated by the Ravens earlier this season in what would be the second of a four-game losing streak.
