PITTSBURGH –– Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson revealed after Saturday night’s Wild Card loss to the Baltimore Ravens that he wants to be back but he will leave it in God’s hands.

He reiterated that statement when speaking with reporters during the locker room clean out day on Monday. He has every intention on re-signing with the Steelers.

“Yeah, that’s the plan. I love it here and everything else. I think we have a great football team. Obviously, it didn’t end the way we wanted it to, and I think there’s a lot more to do,” Wilson said.

Wilson said the Steelers are aware of his desire to remain in the Black and Gold.

“I think they’ve known that I’ve always wanted to be here and play here, but it is also a process,” he said. “We haven’t had those meetings yet. So we’ll have those and go from there.”

The Steelers lost the final five games of the season (including playoffs), and Wilson’s subpar play was a big factor. Wilson ranked 30th out of 31 qualified quarterbacks in EPA per drop back over the last five weeks of the regular season. He threw for 217 yards or fewer in each of the final five regular season games.

Adam Schefter of ESPN revealed in late December that Wilson is expected to be the Steelers starting quarterback in 2025. That tracked with what NFL insider Dianna Russini reported in November.

“This is where they’re currently at,” Schefter said. “You asked about the team’s situation in the future. They’d like to go ahead and keep Russell Wilson and re-sign him to keep him in Pittsburgh. But, even if they couldn’t, what do you want them to do with the quarterback position? Who’s going to be out there that’s an upgrade over Russell Wilson right now?

“There are two logical first-round quarterbacks in the draft. They’re not going to get either one of those. The top free-agent quarterbacks are going to be Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson. Is there another quarterback in the trade market that all of a sudden is going to spring free? Probably not. So, this is where the Steelers are.”

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Wilson “wasn’t good enough” in Saturday night’s loss to the Ravens.

When asked about the future at the quarterback position, Tomlin said he is not ready to take a big picture approach at the quarterback position just yet. Justin Fields is also set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2025.
