Russell Wilson: Steelers Must ‘Have Amnesia’ To Play Winning Football

The Steelers have had some costly turnovers as of late, but quarterback Russell Wilson believes it's best to put it behind them.

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping to get back in the win column in Week 18 after losing three straight games. That is a task that will not be easy with the red-hot Cincinnati Bengals coming to town, but quarterback Russell Wilson thinks he has the answer.

On Wednesday, Wilson shared the mentality his previous Super Bowl teams had and that the Steelers need to adopt it if they hope to turn their season around.

“You gotta have amnesia in this game,” Wilson said. “There’s gonna be highs. There’s gonna be lows throughout a game, throughout a season. That’s when the great things are happening, too. To be able to move on and move to the next play. I think that’s gonna be key for winning football as we go here.”

Having a short-term memory during a game is good, but the Steelers seem to have deeper issues they can’t ignore and must figure out.

One of those problems is turning the football over and Wilson has had a knack of doing just that during the Steelers’ three-game losing streak.

That’s something Wilson didn’t do for much of the season, but over the past three weeks, he has two interceptions and two fumbles.

Wilson knows he, along with the rest of the offense, needs to play better. That doesn’t mean changing every aspect of how they play, though.

“I think we just have to get focused back on the fundamentals of the game and just play clean football,” Wilson said. “Still be aggressive in our mentality and approach. Don’t play conservative in anyway in terms of how we play, but just doing the little things right.”

One of Wilson’s best attributes is his deep ball. He’s displayed it multiple times this season. He just needs to be better at deciding when to pull the trigger.

Wilson is still confident he can still do that, despite a few costly turnovers as of late.

“You can’t look at one or two bad plays and then judge the whole season off that,” Wilson said. “You look at the collection of all the plays. It’s football. It’s an imperfect game.”
