Schefter: Aaron Rodgers Still In No Rush, Despite Vikings Pulling Out
ESPN insider Adam Schefter reveals quarterback Aaron Rodgers' timeline hasn't changed, despite the Minnesota Vikings ruling themselves out.

On Wednesday, the Minnesota Vikings ruled themselves out of the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes after revealing they have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean Rodgers is planning to make a decision on where he wants to play in 2025 anytime soon.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, nothing related to the Vikings has altered Rodgers’ timeline to make a decision. The free agent quarterback is reportedly still “in no rush at all.”
The news comes just a couple hours after NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that the Steelers feel like they are “getting closer” to a resolution with Rodgers.
“Tomlin was very adamant about getting DK Metcalf from what I hear,” Anderson wrote on X. “Clearly he’s still at the table over his dice on Rodgers, now he has to bring it home.”
Rodgers’ options seem to be down to just the Steelers, New York Giants or retirement, and the latter feels like the least likely at this point. But Schefter’s report matches that of NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport’s.
Rapoport believes Rodgers could wait up until the 2025 NFL Draft, just as he did in 2023.
“I don’t get the sense he’s in a hurry at all. I really don’t, and there’s no deadline for him to be,” Rapoport said. “He doesn’t have to decide by any time. He sort of controls this thing. There’s no actual deadline. So if you’re the Giants or the Vikings or the Steelers or whoever ends up signing Aaron Rodgers, if it’s anyone, then you’d like it now. But the next point is do you draft someone? And that’s a month or so away. All of us would like this done sooner rather than later. I don’t get the sense Rodgers is in any hurry at all. Could it go all the way to the draft like it did two years ago? Maybe it could.”
Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets one day before the start of the 2023 NFL Draft. With all of the control once again, it may be still over a month until the Rodgers saga officially comes to an end.
In 2024, Rodgers completed 368 of 584 passes (63%) for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
