Schefter: Steelers Working to Re-Sign QB This Week
ESPN insider Adam Schefter believes the Pittsburgh Steelers will re-sign one of their free-agent quarterbacks this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers fans are on the edge of their seats waiting for the team to make a move at quarterback with just Skylar Thompson under contract for the 2025 season and the start of free agency in about a week. Luckily, ESPN insider Adam Schefter believes that decision could be made any day now.
“The other place to watch this week is the Pittsburgh Steelers because they currently do not have a quarterback under contract,” Schefter said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “It’s tough to go into free agency to go add to your offense when you have no idea who’s playing quarterback. That’s why I think they’re going to spend this week working on getting a deal done with either Justin Fields or Russell Wilson.”
Both Wilson and Fields are expected to have several suitors on the open market. That why preventing them from hitting free agency is all the more important as it will only likely drive up their asking prices.
The belief around the league is that the Steelers would prefer to re-sign Fields, but they haven’t ruled out a return by 36-year-old Wilson, either.
“I would imagine Justin Fields is first up in the pecking order. We can see if they can get something worked out there. If not, it’s easy to pivot onto Russell Wilson,” Schefter said. “We’ll see how this works out, but I would think Pittsburgh is determined to try to get one of these quarterback deals done in the coming days so that they have some clarity going into free agency.”
Wilson has already made it very clear that he would like to return to Pittsburgh in 2025.
However, if the Steelers shared that sentiment, a deal would have likely already been done. That is why all eyes are on Fields and his camp. Are they willing to forego free agency for a commitment with Pittsburgh?
If not, Wilson may just get his wish of re-signing with the Steelers this week.
