Should Steelers Trust Jaylen Warren To Be RB1? Steelers Morning Rush

Pittsburgh Steelers Jaylen Warren

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s the Steelers starting running back situation entering the 2025 season.

The team let Najee Harris go into free agency, without even making a significant attempt to re-sign him, and they added only former Philadelphia Eagles third-down back Kenneth Gainwell in the free agency process. There is still a draft to go, but it seems clear that the Steelers intend to hand the reins at running back to Jaylen Warren in 2025.

Is that wise? Harris was a four-time thousand-yard rusher, something Warren has not done in his pro career. But he’s never had the opportunity to, either. Warren will be getting the lion’s share of the reps for the first time, and while he’s been the change-of-base back, he’s been statistically dominant when compared to Harris in the three years they shared the Pittsburgh backfield.

So will Warren work out as RB1? Alan breaks it down.
