Over the last week or so, the Brandon Aiyuk trade saga has dominated what seems like every ounce of conversation throughout the Pittsburgh area. Meanwhile, the Steelers have a game tonight against the Houston Texans to open the preseason. Not only is football finally back, which alone is worth getting excited about, there are a couple position battles worth keeping an eye on and we’ll also get our first look at Justin Fields in a Steelers uniform.

Let’s talk about a several players in particular that I’ll be keeping a close eye on throughout the night for various reasons.

QB Justin Fields

This is an easy inclusion but everything on the field starts with the quarterback position so it only makes sense to start the article with one. Head coach Mike Tomlin informed us that Russell Wilson will sit out Friday night’s contest, meaning Fields will get at least a couple of series with the starting offense.
