Star WR Davante Adams Not Sure about Landing with Jets, Might Stay with Raiders
The Davante Adams trade sweepstakes is a very fluid situation, as the star wide receiver could wind up staying with the Las Vegas Raiders rather than being traded, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Schefter also added that the Raiders have been and will continue talking to the New York Jets, and they also were expected to talk Saturday with the Steelers ahead of Sunday afternoon’s game between the two teams. Other teams such as the Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints have also checked in on Adams’ availability.
The Steelers, Jets, Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers have all been mentioned as potential landing spots for Adams. Schefter said Adams has received interest from other teams, but it is not “phone-is-ringing-off-the-hook interest” for the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.
Adams, who turns 32 in December, is a six-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All-Pro. Adams was teammates with Rodgers in Green Bay for the first eight years of his NFL career.
It’s been reported that Adams would prefer to go to the Jets, but that’s not going to be a specific demand of his, Ian Rapoport of NFL network says.
Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports said Adams is now hesitant about heading to New York and reuniting with Rodgers.
“I’m told [Adams] spent part of this week re-thinking if he really wanted to land with the Jets,” Jones said on Sunday. “The Saints, Bills, and Steelers (are) all still monitoring the situation. The Raiders, they’re posturing as though they can still keep Adams … Nobody believes that. We told you last week it’s highly unlikely they’ll get a second-round pick for Adams, and that’s what the rest of the league has told them this week. Adams’ hamstring, meanwhile, is getting healthier.”
