The Steelers are hosting freak athlete edge rusher Robert Beal out of Georgia on a pre-draft visit on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.
Beal comes out of Athens as a player with minimal production over his time with the Bulldogs. In his five years there, he registered 10 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss. This past season, he played a career-high 15 games for the Bulldogs after playing 12 the year prior. 2021 was Beal’s best season, posting 6.5 sacks alongside Travon Walker and others on the talented Georgia defensive line.
An edge rusher, he ran a blazing 4.48 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine that turned some heads. However, an underwhelming 7.26 3-cone is something that could raise concerns with scouts. Still, he is explosive as well, posting a 31.5-inch vertical at Georgia pro day. The athletic tools are all there for Beal, and he should be a player that raises some eyebrows within the Steelers building for their fourth-round pick.
Beal joins a group of Tuli Tuipulotu and Keion White as edge rushers that the team is looking at right now for the draft. It seems they would like to add some depth behind T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith but they have yet to figure out the best course of action for that. Former Steelers OLB Bud Dupree visited the team weeks ago but did come away from the visit with a contract. It likely seems that Pittsburgh will look at how the NFL Draft plays out and then decide what to do with Dupree.
