Steelers Activate WR Diontae Johnson from COVID-19 List

Steelers WR Diontae Johnson

The Pittsburgh Steelers have activated wide receiver Diontae Johnson from the COVID-19 reserve list, the team announced on Friday.

Johnson was placed on the list on Thursday and missed the team’s final two practices in preparations to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. It is not immediately clear if Johnson will be able to play in the Steelers’ must-win Week 18 game at Baltimore.

If he is unable to play, Johnson would be a huge loss for the Steelers’ passing offense. Johnson has been the team’s top wide receiver all season. His 100 catches is nearly double that of No. 2 wide receiver Chase Claypool and he also leads the team in receiving yards and touchdowns.

The team’s third-round draft pick out of Toledo in 2019, Johnson has developed into a legitimate top receiving threat, going over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career this season and drawing attention from opposing defenses.

Top cornerback Joe Haden, center Kendrick Green and defensive coordinator Keith Butler remain in the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols, with one day left to test out before the game.
