Steelers Activate WR JuJu Smith-Schuster from IR, Set to Play vs. Chiefs

JuJu Smith-Schuster

The Pittsburgh Steelers have activated wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster from the injured reserve list, paving the way for him to return to action in Sunday’s Wild Card playoff game at Kansas City.

Smith-Schuster had posted on social media earlier on Saturday that he expected to play.

The wide receiver is just a little over three months removed from shoulder surgery that was expected to keep him out four months and the remainder of the season. Instead, the Steelers’ top slot receiver has made a remarkable recovery.

It’s unclear how much Smith-Schuster will be able to participate and if he will be limited in any way. He dislocated his shoulder in the Steelers’ Oct. 10 game against the Denver Broncos. The injury could not be re-set and required surgery.

Ray-Ray McCloud has replaced Smith-Schuster in the starting lineup since his injury. The Steelers also got James Washington back from the COVID-19 list this week. He missed the regular season finale at Baltimore.

With Cody White also on the 53-man roster, the Steelers will have their top six wide receivers all healthy and available going into the postseason.

Punter Corliss Waitman was released to make room for Smith-Schuster on the active roster.
