Steelers Activate WR Rico Bussey from Practice Squad Injured Reserve
The Pittsburgh Steelers have activated wide receiver Rico Bussey from the practice squad injured reserve, the team announced on Wednesday.
Bussey has been on the practice squad IR nearly the entire season, having been placed there with an undisclosed injury on Sept. 7.
A rookie out of Hawaii, Bussey joined the Steelers this spring as an undrafted free agent and had a promising training camp and preseason. He caught five passes for 49 yards this preseason, and seemed to develop a rapport with third-string quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
The Steelers are thin on depth at receiver, with three practice squad wideouts on the COVID-19 reserve list. Tyler Vaughns was placed on the list on Wednesday to make room for Bussey’s return. He joins Anthony Miller and Steven Sims as receivers currently impacted by the virus.
Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Damion Willis was added to the group on Tuesday.
The Steelers’ practice squad currently stands at 15 of the maximum 16 members. Practice for the team’s Week 17 Monday Night Football game against the Cleveland Browns will begin on Thursday.
