Steelers All 90: C/G B.J. Finney

All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2021 offseason roster.

67 • B.J. Finney, sixth-year offensive lineman
Acquired: The Steelers brought Finney back as an unrestricted free agent on March 12, 2021 after one season away from the team. He originally signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2015.

Last season: Finney singed a two-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks after becoming an unrestricted free agent for the first time, but lasted just six games with the Seahawks before being traded, along with a 2021 seventh-round pick, to the Cincinnati Bengals for defensive end Carlos Dunlap.

In Cincinnati, Finney played just one game, missing time while on the COVID-19 list and the non-football injury list. He was released by the Bengals on March 5.

Career: Finney was released by the Steelers after being injured in the preseason as a rookie in 2015, but re-singed with the team to the practice squad. In 2016, he made the team as a backup interior lineman.

He made three starts in 2016, four in 2017, two in 2018 and four in 2019 as the team’s top interior line backup, making starts at all three positions.

College: Finney was a Rimington Trophy finalist and an All-American as a senior center at Kansas State in 2014. He was a four-time All-Big 12 selection and started a Wildcats-record 52 consecutive games.

Camp outlook: Finney is theoretically in the mix to start at the center spot, though it appears that J.C. Hassenauer and rookie Kendrick Green will be the first two options there. It’s more likely that Finney’s versatility will make him into the team’s top interior backup once again.

Future: Finney will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2021 season.
