All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2021 offseason roster.

21 • Tre Norwood, rookie defensive back
6-foot, 194 pounds

Acquired: Selected with the 245th pick in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

College: Norwood started five games as a true freshman in 2017 before become a full-time starter in 2018, his most productive season. In 14 games, he recorded 38 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and defended five passes.

He missed the entire 2019 season with an injury suffered in training camp, but returned for 2020. He had to work his way back into the starting lineup, but started five of Oklahoma’s last six games and finished the year with five interceptions to lead the Big 12. He returned one for a touchdown.

Camp outlook: Norwood will look to occupy Cam Sutton’s former role as a player that can play both slot corner in the team’s Nickel and Dime alignments and free safety, as required.

He’ll have some competition for that job in the form of Antoine Brooks Jr. and Arthur Maulet, but the Steelers had three players in that niche in 2020 in Mike Hilton, Sutton and Sean Davis, so it’s possible that all three could end up with significant playing time.

Rookie free agent cornerbacks Shakur Brown and Mark Gilbert are the other players competing for time in the slot, though it appears that Norwood and Brooks have a head start on the pack entering training camp.

Future: Norwood’s rookie contract is a four-year deal that runs through 2024.
