Steelers All 90: DE Abdullah Anderson

Published

on

All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2021 offseason roster.

65 • Abdullah Anderson, second-year defensive lineman
6-foot-4, 295 pounds

Acquired: Signed a one-year contract as a free agent on April 12, 2021.

Last season: Cut after training camp by the Chicago Bears, Anderson signed to the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad on Sept. 21. He was elevated to the active roster for one game and he played 10 snaps against Detroit on Nov. 8 without recording a statistic.

Joined the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Spent the first season on the practice squad. Made the active roster in 2019, playing in six games and recording four tackles, one tackle for loss and a sack.

College: Started 43 games at Bucknell and was an FCS All-American in 2017. Finished Bison career with 33.5 tackles for loss. Also blocked four kicks.

Camp outlook: The Steelers have a crowded mix of players contending for roster spots behind the three starters on the defensive line.
Isaiah Buggs, Carlos Davis, Henry Mondeaux and Chris Wormley earned the bulk of the playing time there in 2020 and all four return, but Anderson and fifth-round pick Isaiahh Loudermilk have been added to the mix.

Mondeaux earned his roster spot with strong play on special teams last season, and that’s probably the most likely path for Anderson, as well.

Future: Will be an exclusive-rights free agent after the 2021 season.
