All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2022 offseason roster.
16 • Nick Sciba, rookie kicker, Wake Forest
5-foot-9, 191 pounds, 22 years old
Acquired: Signed by the Steelers on May 16, 2022 after a tryout at the team’s rookie minicamp.
Last season: Made 23 of 25 field goals and all 65 extra points to help Wake Forest to an ACC Atlantic Division title and a berth in the 2021 ACC Championship game, where they lost to Kenny Pickett and Pitt.
College: A four-year regular, Sciba made all 193 extra points and 80 of his 89 field goals with the Demon Deacons. He holds the NCAA record with an 89.9 career field goal percentage. His 433 career points are third in ACC history. He was a semifinalist for the 2021 Lou Groza Award and was a first-team All-ACC selection.
Camp outlook: Sciba probably doesn’t have a realistic chance to make the Steelers 53-man roster, barring a Chris Boswell injury. The team has kept an additional kicker with the expanded practice squad due to COVID-19 protocols the last two seasons, but it’s not clear if that will be the case in 2022.
As with all specialists, a strong preseason performance can always be an audition for someone else, and with Boswell looking for a contact extension, he might not be kicking much.
Future: Sciba signed a three-year rookie contract that will pay him $705,00 this season. He will be a restricted free agent after the 2024 season.
