All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2021 offseason roster.
44 • Jamir Jones, first-year linebacker
6-foot-3, 255 pounds
Acquired: Signed by the Steelers as a street free agent on April 7, 2021
Last season: Jones signed with the Houston Texans after going undrafted out of Notre Dame, but was released on Aug. 10 and did not catch on with another team.
College: In four seasons with the Fighting Irish, Jones played 55 games and recored 50 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one pass defensed and six quarterback hits.
Camp outlook: Cassius Marsh and sixth-round pick Quincy Roche are at the top of the line as backup outside linebackers, but it’s a tenuous hold, and the Steelers have kept five OLBs in the past
If Jones can establish himself as a special teams option, that could go a long way toward him sticking around.
Future: Jones will be an exclusive rights free agent after the 2021 season.
