All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2021 offseason roster.
6 • Pressley Harvin III, rookie punter
6-foot, 255 pounds
Acquired: Drafted by the Steelers with the second of two seventh-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft.
College: The Ray Guy Award winner as the best collegiate punter in the country as a senior, Harvin led the NCAA with a 48-yards-per-kick punting average in 2020 while earning unanimous All-America honors. A four-year starter at Georgia Tech, he was also a two-time All-ACC selection.
In 2019, Harvin threw a 41-yard touchdown pass as part of a fake punt call.
Camp outlook: The Steelers have seemingly been displeased with incumbent punter Jordan Berry for some time and Harvin represents the third attempt to replace Berry in a year’s time, following the additions of free agent Dustin Colquitt and undrafted free agent Corliss Waitman in 2020.
Neither of those players could unseat Berry a year ago, though, and his performance was a career best at 45.8 yards per punt in 2020.
Harvin has the leg to beat that figure in a one-on-one competition, but he’ll have to prove his accuracy and holding abilities, as well, to beat out Berry. Even if Harvin loses, if he clears waivers, the Steelers will likely keep extra specialists on their 16-man practice squad, as they did in 2020.
Future: Harvin’s rookie contract runs through 2024, after which he’ll be an unrestricted free agent.
