Steelers All 90: Punter Cameron Nizialek

Steelers Punter Cameron Nizialek

All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2022 offseason roster.

4 • Cameron Nizialek, second-year punter, Georgia
6-foot-2, 200 pounds, 27 years old

Acquired: Signed by the Steelers to their practice squad on Dec. 25, 2021 after the death of starting punter Pressley Harvin III’s father. When backup punter Corliss Waitman was lost on waivers, the Steelers re-signed Nizialek to a future contract for 2022.

Last season: Started the year on a future contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but was waived in March. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 3, after having spent time with Atlanta in 2020. He played in four games with the Falcons, punting 18 times for a 45.4 yard average and also handling kickoffs.

Career: After going undrafted and unsigned coming out of Georgia in 2018, Nizialek played for the Atlanta Legends of the AAF in the spring of 2019. Later that summer, he got his first NFL contract with the Baltimore Ravens. He was cut by the Ravens coming out of training camp and did not sign with another team.

In 2020, with expanded practice squads, the Atlanta Falcons signed Nizialek as their backup punter. He was released a month later. On Dec. 22, 2020, he signed with Jacksonville for the 2021 season.

College: Redshirted as a freshman at Columbia before being a three-year contributor. As a redshirt junior in 2016, he led the Ivy League with a 44.8 yards per punt average and was named second-team all-conference. He was a graduate transfer to Georgia for his final collegiate season, and averaged 45 yards per kick with the Bulldogs.

Camp outlook: Harvin was a draft pick of the Steelers in 2021 and seems to have the faith of the coaching staff, but his 42.6 yards per punt average from his rookie season makes him far from a lock to retain the starting punting job. Nizialek can also perform at that level or better.

Future: Nizialek will be an exclusive-rights free agent at the end of the 2021 season.
