Steelers All 90: QB Chris Oladokun

Steelers QB Chris Oladokun

All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2022 offseason roster.

5 • Chris Oladokun, rookie quarterback, South Dakota State
6-foot-2, 195 pounds, 24 years old

Acquired: Drafted by the Steelers with the No. 241 pick in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, their second of two seventh-round selections.

Last season: Transferred to South Dakota and was the Jackrabbits’ starter, throwing for 3,164 yards, 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He also rushed for 166 yards last season and caught two touchdowns, displaying his athleticism all over the offensive side of the ball.

Oladokun led the Jackrabbits to an 11-4 record, including wins over an FBS team at Colorado State and a home victory over the No. 1 FCS team in the country and eventual national champions North Dakota State. South Dakota State was unranked entering the FCS playoffs, but won three games before bowing out in the semifinals at Montana State.

College: Before transferring to South Dakota State, Oladokun played for Samford, where he started nine of 19 games in two seasons. In the limited action he saw on the field, Oladokun threw for over 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns.

His first stop in college was at South Florida, where he saw even less time as a backup, starting two games in 2018, completing 22 of his 44 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns. He was a three-star recruit as a pro-style passer out of Sickles High School in Tampa, Florida

Camp outlook: Oladokun is the only of the Steelers four quarterbacks that is not directly competing for a starting job, and there is no chance that the team will keep four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, but he is competing for a roster spot.

If the Steelers decide one of their experienced options is the third-best quarterback, and feel comfortable with Oladokun as a No. 3, they could trade a vet and keep the rookie as a backup.

If Oladokun doesn’t make the team, his overall athleticism and ability to represent a running quarterback could make him a value member of the scout team on the practice squad.

Future: Oladokun signed a four-year contract with the Steelers and will be an unrestricted free agent following the 2025 season.
