Steelers All 90: SS Terrell Edmunds

Terrel

All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2021 offseason roster.

34 • Terrell Edmunds, fourth-year strong safety
6-foot-1, 217 pounds

Acquired: The Steelers drafted Edmunds with the 28th overall selection in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Last season: Started 12 games and played in 15 as the Steelers’ starting strong safety. His 68 tackles finished third on the team. Edmunds also had on sack, two interceptions and eight passes defended.

Career: Edmunds was an immediate starter as a rookie in 2018 and has missed just one game since being drafted. He set a career high in 2019 with 105 tackles, while forming a strong partnership with Minkah Fitzpatrick.

College: Edmunds was a three-year starter for Virginia Tech and a two-time All-ACC selection. He had 59 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks as a senior in 2017.

Camp outlook: Edmunds will be the team’s unquestioned starter at strong safety, returning alongside Fitzpatrick and Joe Haden in the starting secondary.

There will be plenty of moving parts around him, as the team replaces Steven Nelson and Mike Hilton, so Edmunds’ role will be an increased one when it comes to keeping the defensive lined up correctly.

Future: The Steelers declined Edmunds’ fifth-year option for 2022, so he’s currently scheduled to be a free agent after the 2021 season.
